Last Tuesday evening the minors prepared with the strongest panel available at the time to face Fr. O’Neills at home. With championship looming the lads went out looking to put their best foot forward and get a good work-out before they would face Ballinhassig next Tuesday on the 11th in Carrigaline. With one or two injuries lads got chances to show their hand in new positions and get vital minutes in. From the opening few minutes we knew it would be a close one as both teams when all out in a good fair game. David O’Callaghan looked dangerous in the inside line as the half back line began to get a grip on the game. Sean Holland was pressured with a strong corner-forward but handled him excellently as the game grew on. Coming off a good u21 Championship game a lot of the lads weren’t long picking up where they had left off especially Seanie Mc and Greg Lardner. It only took 15 minutes before Fermoy raised the green flag and the second Green would be for ONeills right on the death of the first half. Teams went in at half time 1-9 to 1-5 in favour of Fermoy. Sean Holland made wa for Jeff Ennis who picked up a quick forward but was more the able to handle him. Ryan Sargent grew into the second half as it went on coming out on top more often then not. The Defence Fermoy showed was good and we took our chances up front when they presented themselves. Adam Ronan then made his make on the game when he came out to wing forward and himself and Colm Hurley started running the tired Fr. O’Neills legs. Seanie Mc and Dale Dawson then start commanded in the mid-field. Fr. O’Neills started finding their range and through a good attack, they fired home to raise the green flag to tighten up the game again. The rest of the game turned into a shoot out with attack after attack from both sides and Fermoy were able to see out the game 1-16 to 2-11 in what was the best possible session before next Tuesday. Team lined out as following; J Wales, S Holland, R Sargent, J Waters, J Molloy, G Lardner, L Aherne, D Dawson, N Collins, A Creed, C Hurley, S McCarthy, D O’Callaghan, D Ekechukwu and A Ronan. Subs used; Jeff Ennis for Sean Holland, Daniel Regan for Duncan Ekechukwu.
