West Munster U14 League - Killarney 25 Abbeyfeale 14

In an entertaining and competitive match played on a cold, clear day in Aghadoe, Killarney U14s emerged winners over Abbeyfeale. In a game played in the three-thirds format to give everyone some game time, Killarney opened the scoring in the first 'third'. A break down the right stretched the Abbeyfeale defence and when the ball was recycled, Killarney had an overlap to put Shane O'Sullivan in on the left. The conversion wasn't successful - so Killarney led 5-0 early on.

Stung, Abbeyfeale rapidly struck back with a try of their own - this was successfully converted to leave Abbeyfeale 7-5 ahead. This remained the score until the end of the first third despite both teams threatening - but solid defence by both team meant the two attacks couldn't find a way through.

Early in the second third, Killarney scored a second try off a cross field kick from out-half Dara Stack allowing Shane O'Sullivan to run in his second score. With the conversion from wide right unsuccessful, the score stood Killarney 10 Abbeyfeale 7. The next score looked like it would prove crucial - and it went to Killarney. Openside Gearóid Sugrue carried the ball into the Abbeyfeale 22 and put his 10 through the gap with an inside pass that the speedy, elusive Dara Stack burst onto at pace to run clear to the tryline. Killarney 15 Abbeyfeale 7.

Killarney scored two more quick tries though Dara Stack and Shane O'Sullivan and although the conversions weren't successful - Killarney now lead by 25-7. Abbeyfeale had the last word in the match scoring a converted try in the final whistle of the second third to leave the "final score" at Killarney 25 Abbeyfeale 14

With the competitive part of the game over, a bit of re-organisation allowed us to put an new XV on the field for the last third. Sportingly, Abbeyfeale played on with their original starting XV to let us give the whole squad a game time.
