Full Time Borris-Ileigh 0-13 Sars 2-22

Half Time Borris 0-10 Sars 1-08

A complete second half collapse from the Men in Maroon led to our disappointing exit from the Championship in Semple Stadium this afternoon. Borris lost Conor Kenny after 2 minutes with a recurrence of his injury and was replaced by Jack Hogan.

After a shaky Borris start, Sars had a goal from play after two minutes through Pa Bourke and the signs were ominous for Borris. To their credit they regained their compose to finish out the half excellently with Brendan Maher & the other back five in particular to the fore. Indeed Borris even hit the front on 22 minutes when Gerry Kelly hit his 3rd pointed free only for Sars to claw it back to lead by one at the Interval after hitting just 3 wides to Borris' wide tally of five.

In the same way Kilkenny Seniors have shown down through the years, the first ten minutes of the second half is when they blitz teams & here Sars were no different. With Borrisoleigh heads apparently still in the dressing rooms Sars quietly went about their business and tagged on six points without reply, showing no signs that they hadn't played a competitive fixture in 14 weeks.

Jerry Kelly had Borris' first point of the second half with a free on 40 minutes. The North men appeared spent from their first half effort as Sars' cruel efficiency allowed them to never need to hit top gear. Ronan Maher was moved onto Niall Kenny & nullified him superbly after Kenny caused problems in the opening minutes. County men Padraig Maher & Micky Cahill were again excellent for the reigning Champions with Denis Maher having a fine afternoon too. Ritchie Ruth grabbed their second goal on 52 minutes. Best for Borris were Brendan Maher, Liam Ryan, Dan McCormack and Jerry Kelly
