Sunday afternoon, Rockchapel made the trip to Fermoy and with Fermoy coming off the back of a good win last week against Bandon, it was more of the same this Sunday. Fermoy got off to the better start and in the opening 15 minutes pointing through the boot of Martin Brennan and co. The score stood at 0-4 to 0-0 on the 21st minute when a good move from Rockchapel had the full forward one on one with Liam Coleman and there was no option but to take him down. Coleman got the black card which saw David Geary in to try and stop Rockchapels penalty. Fermoys reply was to go get a further 3 points but also Brennan found the net also as he got on the end of a pass in from Darragh O’Carroll putting him in through on goal. The teams went in at half time with the score line 1-6 to 1-0. Jeffery Daly at fullback had been leading the way for the backs playing from the front and breaking down the Rockchapel attacks with help from Seanie Shanahan. While the backs did the work of stopping Rockchapel, the half back line and midfield acted like a stringboard to deliver the ball to the likes of Kieran Morrison who ran at the Rockchapel defence endlessly.

The second half got off to a similar start with Fermoy fastest out of the traps score 6 unanswered points in the first 15 minutes of the second half. With the game out of sight for Rockchapel, Fermoy introduced some younger players like Adam Creed, and both David and Greg Lardner. Fermoy also had Ronan O’Callaghan and Fergus Bogue brought in who linked up to get Fermoys 2nd goal in the 55th minute. Fermoy had put up a score of 2-13 to 1-5 as Rockchapel kicked a number of frees. Rockchapel failed to score for open play and only to the credit of the backs who player hard defensively and punished through breaking fast. This meant maximum return in the league so far gaining full points in both games heading into the break for Hurling. Hopefully this is signs of things to come as with again new faces in both management and in the reserve of plays to choose from.
